Workhouses

There were 163 workhouses built in Ireland between 1840 and 1853. This workhouse was one of thirty workhouses built in the second phase during the years 1850-1852. The Workhouse was a place of last resort for the poorest of the poor. This is my fourth annual visit here as I’ve been documenting the changes that are happening due to restoration work in the front buildings and the changes nature is making on the buildings that are not in the process of being restored.
